Greetings from Hammond South | Lee’s Journey to Cincinnati and Florida

Hi there everyone!

Well, it is that time of year again, and I’m reporting to you from “Hammond South” in beautiful Naples, Florida, where I return each winter to teach art workshops. My dog Jackie and I made the long drive together from Kansas City to Florida, after a pitstop in Kentucky to spend Christmas with my family. I have new subject matter in the family, with the arrival of a great grandson last year. Be on the lookout for his appearance in upcoming books! You’ve watched all of my kids and grandkids grow up on the pages of my books, so why should he be any different, right?

Speaking of books, I also spent a couple of days in Cincinnati in meetings with my publisher. I love seeing everyone at North Light Books, and acquiring new project ideas. What a wonderful group of people I have to work with! They are so creative and uplifting!

You’ll be happy to know that there’s no end in sight for “Lee Hammond books.” It’s a good thing I intend to live until I’m 109, because that’s about the amount of time I’m going to need to finish up what we discussed in the aforementioned meetings. Just to tease you a bit, we talked about new books in colored pencil (portraits and flowers) graphite, (flowers and landscapes), and some watercolor. Feel free to let me know what you would like to see. After all, you’re the reason I do these things!

I’m also going to film three more DVDs in the summer, which is always a good time. A couple of them will go with Drawing the Clothed Figure, which is the new book I’m working on. If you’ve ever experienced difficulty in drawing fabric, clothing, or the human form, these will be the books and DVDs for you!

Every week, in this blog, I’ll share with you some of the things I’m working on, inspirational words of wisdom, and sneak previews of what you can look forward to. I’ll also share with you experiences from my classroom, to show you how I help students overcome their artistic stumbling blocks. Trust, me, you are not alone! I remember what it’s like to try something new. Being self-taught, I know all of the frustrations. Hopefully I can take some of that away for you.

I am looking forward to connecting with you every week. Stay tuned for more fun filled inspiration!

Bye for now!
Lee
