Just Getting Started | Student Work at ANU

by Beth Samek, Online Education Manager at Artist’s Network University

Sometimes taking the first step can be the most challenging. Whether we’re trying something new or returning to something we love, getting started is tough! At Artist’s Network University we have lots of beginning courses, great for students wanting to try painting or drawing in a more formal way. Many students are looking to get their feet wet, while working at their own pace.

In Watercolor for the Absolute Beginner with Annie Strack, student Linda Jacobs tried out a new medium and in the process created these two pieces, using warm and cool colors creating great contrasts with the branches of the trees!

“Annie Strack was fabulous as an online instructor and I would eagerly participate in another of her classes! Each week I looked forward to reading her feedback from each of the assignments because she was so encouraging and supportive, and generally made me feel great about my efforts,” said Jacobs.

“I’d never done an online class before and didn’t know what to expect. As it turned out it was incredibly easy to log on and read/watch the assignments, and turning in the assignments was very easy too. I had a whole week to do each assignment so this made it really enjoyable for me to do them at my own pace and around my busy schedule.”

“The assignments were so well explained that I did a couple of them a couple of times and turned in the best one to Annie… just to be able to play a little longer! Painting/drawing is so relaxing and this class enabled me to play with watercolors and to have a finished artwork that I could proudly frame and hang in my home. Actually, I had a couple of family members call dibs on a couple of the finished paintings!”

I love when friends and family ‘call dibs’ on work! Can’t argue with that!

Annie’s Watercolor for the Absolute Beginner is starting on August 27th and we’re so excited to introduce her brand new, step 2 course, Watercolor for the Absolute Beginner, Part 2! Learn more at the links!
