More Artist’s Network University Instructors Share Their Thoughts on Teaching

Last week I shared a few of the responses I received from instructors when I asked them what they loved most about teaching art. Teaching online provides different opportunities to both instructors and students but the joy that artists get from sharing their skills and experience is always the same.

I enjoyed reading their responses and I hope that you did too. This week I have a few more responses to share with you, and I think that these instructors are every bit as thoughtful and insightful. Artist’s Network University is a place for beginning, intermediate, and advanced artists to challenge themselves and learn something new while being supported by an instructor.

I hope you enjoy these thoughts as much as I did.

Sharon Weaver HeadshotInstructor: Sharon Weaver

Q: What do you love most about teaching?
A: There are so many reasons but the one I love the most would be seeing the AHA! moment in my students work when they discover something new and use it in the assignment. That is so great. I have received several emails from students telling me that they have learned so much from my course, Composition: The Foundation of Your Art. Some students then enrolled for the Color Harmony course too!

Q: What do you love most about your courses at ANU?
A: I have offered courses that are open to all medium so I get an amazing variety of work. It is like opening up treasury every week with the assignments. I even had a ceramic artist and a textile professional take my Understanding Color Harmony course. Everyone can benefit from my classes.

A wonderful side effect is that I am learning from the courses too. Every class pushes me to explore color theory and the composition as I solve the needs of each student. Teaching has made a real impression on my work.
