Pastel Hall of Fame 2011 Inductee Announced

Our hearty congratulations to Bill Creevy, pastel artist, author, teacher and now the 2011 “Hall of Fame” artist in the Pastel Society of America!

Upon learning of the announcement, Creevy said: “This is an
immense honor for me. It is always great to be appreciated but to be
recognized by my fellow PSA members—painters who really know and love
making art with pastels—that is being truly honored.”

The Hall of Fame distinction is one that the PSA has presented to an
artist each year since 1978 to honor the recipient’s contributions to
and achievements in pastel. Some previous honorees include Alan Flattmann, Elizabeth Mowry, Sally Strand and Duane Wakeham. About Creevy’s induction, artist Jimmy Wright, PSA Treasurer,
said: “Bill’s art is original, a singular inner vision in the
guise of a pear, a 1950s car, or a New Orleans shotgun house or
alleyway. One can always spot a jewel-like Creevy pastel across a
crowded salon-style gallery. Creevy is an original.”

The official
Hall of Fame presentation will be made during the September 25th Awards Ceremony for
the PSA’s 39th Annual Open Juried Exhibition at the National Arts Club in New York City, which is now accepting entries (click here for  the official prospectus). A selection of Creevy’s paintings
will be featured within the exhibition, which will be on display from September 5 through
October 1, 2011.
