A heads-up that the deadline for The Artist’s Magazine’s 27th Annual Art Competition is fast-approaching. So, if you’d like a chance to win some of the $25,000 being awarded in cash prizes, get your entry in by May 3.
And if you think The Artist’s Magazine’s competition is primarily an opportunity for oil painters, think again. In last year’s competition, three out of the five first-place awards were given for pastels. Winners inlcuded Terry Donahue’s Fly Over Country in the Animal/Wildlife category; Frederick Somer’s Ruby’s Crowned Waters (shown here) in the Abstract/Experimental category; and Sarah Blumenschein’s Sunflowers, Red Pears, Turquois Cloth in the Still Life/Floral category. Pastel artists also took several honorable mentions, including Rita Kirkman in the Animal/Wildlife category and Jennifer Gardner in the Abstract/Experimental category, as well as numerous finalists in all five categories.
