Sometimes it’s hard to understand the price assigned to a work of art. But if you study the overall pricing of artwork long enough, you’ll see some patterns emerging, such as:
- Better-known artists generally price higher; artists with international reputations sell their artwork at very high prices.
- Large pieces generally have higher prices than small pieces.
- Watercolors, pastels and photographs sell for less than oils; sculpture, on the other hand is higher.
