Try these three tools for increasing sales at art shows and festivals:

  • Accept credit cards for payment. The increase in sales will most likely pay for the expense of the service.
  • Establish a lay-away payment plan, with the terms set down in writing. Take a deposit at the show–perhaps 25 percent of the total–and establish a schedule of payments. Don’t deliver the work until the payments are finished.
  • Take returns, depending on the length of the show. Ask the customer to pay for the work in full, but allow him or her to bring it back undamaged before the end of the show.
