Brilliant Brushwork

In addition to color and design, an artist’s brushwork can go a long way toward creating a compelling composition. The brushstrokes can impact the movement, mood and sense of space in a painting. They should vary enough to be interesting, but still be cohesive. For example, edges should shift from lost to found, or soft to hard, depending on their purpose and their placement within the painting’s entire picture plane.
