Creating Space with Color & Value

Keep these concepts in mind when you create space with color and value:

  • Intense colors tend to come toward you and muted colors tend to recede. (This is more about value than color.)
  • Warm colors tend to come toward you and cool colors tend to recede. (This is more about color than value.)
  • Overall, dark values are used in the foreground and lighter values are used to create the perception of distance in the background. Within a form, this idea can be reversed.
