Keeping Colors True

With oils and acrylics, avoid using white to lighten colors because it’ll weaken the color and dramatically alter the hue. Instead, use other colors, especially complementary colors, for highlights and shadows. If white must be used for a highlight, correct it with a glaze. For example, on a red dress, mix red with white to make a pink highlight, then glaze over it with a thin wash of red to maintain the “redness.”
