Losing focus

Many times, more than one area will present itself as a possible center of interest for your painting. Resist the temptation to put more than one in your composition. This is a common mistake among beginners. It’s almost like depicting a fork in the road and making each vista equally interesting. If there’s more than one center of interest, make more than one painting. Feature one and subordinate the other in each instance, but never crowd both ideas into the same canvas.
