Top Bananas: Winners of the 21 Over 31 Competition Announced

Anyway You Slice It (colored pencil, 9 x 24) by Cecile Baird

The November issue of Southwest Art is on the newsstands,
and readers across the country are meeting the winners of the 21 Over 31
competition. The editors spent hours poring through nearly 3,000 entries and
then making some tough choices. The winning artists hail from all parts of the
country; they range in age from 31 to 64; and their genres include figurative,
still-life, and landscape works. Readers will find the variety of subject
matter intriguing—the streets of San Francisco, sandhill cranes, skeletons, and
sunsets, as well as horses, eggs, and a Volkswagen bus. Ohio-based Cecile Baird
took home first place for Any Way You Slice It, a colored-pencil work depicting
a banana. Click here or pick up a copy of the November issue to learn more
about the winning pieces and artists.—Bonnie Gangelhoff
