Join the fun! 

In the December 2009 issue of Watercolor Artist, painter Pat San Soucie challenged readers to create a rich, textural underpainting using blotting techniques. Many talented artists responded with a wide array of approaches, but the editors' choice and the winner of our prize (a six-month subscription to ArtistsNetwork.tv online video workshops, plus $50 worth of North Light fine art books) is Daenna Newkirk of Des Moines, Iowa with her exceptional painting, Earthen Spring (above).

Of the process, the artist remarks, "When I saw the article in Watercolor Artist magazine, I couldn't wait to try it out for myself. This project was a wonderful creative release. Thanks to San Soucie for a wonderful tutorial."
