Q. What is the beveled handle on the flat brush used for?

A. It’s used for scraping and making textures while paint is still wet. You can use the narrow side of the beveled handle to make thin lines or the thick side to make thicker lines. (See the demonstration at right.)

The handle is good, for instance, for making grasses. (See the demonstration at right.) The edge of an old credit card, cut diagonally, will give you the same effect.
