The following is an excerpt from the August 2004 issue of The Artist’s Magazine, in an article titled “Color Handbook” by Birgit O’Connor.
Listen to music and try to imagine those sounds as colors. Imagine that you’re a filter and that everything you hear is passing through and emerging as a color. Breathe.
Let the music flow in and out of you. Turn up the music and paint the colors you feel coming out of you. Don’t worry how the painting will turn out: This is an exercise to remove the obstacles that may prohibit you from knowing your own painting voice.
