Watercolors on the Go

I didn’t want to miss a single opportunity to sketch Hawaii’s beautiful scenery, so after my husband and I booked a two-week vacation to the island, I immediately started collecting art supplies for a traveling watercolor kit. To hold my materials, I chose a quilted fabric toiletries bag with clear plastic pockets on the inside. Since the bag’s zipper extends around three sides, the bag conveniently lies flat when opened to expose all my supplies.

In my kit, I included:

  • 1 water bottle
  • 2 small containers (one for rinsing brushes and one for holding clean water)
  • 1 10 x 7 Cotman Water Colour Pad
  • Several watercolor postcards
  • Several watercolor greeting cards with envelopes
  • 1 sketch pad
  • 1 small sponge
  • 1 kneaded eraser
  • 1 small towel
  • Several paper towels
  • 1 small palette of watercolor half-pans
  • 1 pencil
  • Several different size brushes
