We’re thrilled to present the winning drawings in Drawing magazine’s third annual Shades of Gray competition. This contest challenges artists the world over to create artwork in any drawing media, so long as the works are entirely made up of black, white and gray tones. No color is allowed–not even toned paper.
The grand-prize winner of this year’s competition is German artist Dirk Dzimirsky, for his portrait Mary. Thirteen other drawings were also winners, and you can see them all below.
To learn more about each of these inspiring artworks, check out the spring issue of Drawing (you can order a copy here), and we also encourage you to visit these artists’ websites.
The 4th annual Shades of Gray drawing competition has just opened for entries, so if you’d like your shot at appearing in Drawing magazine, click here to enter. The deadline is September 9.
