At Artist’s Network University we’re thankful for each of our students, people from around the world trying something new or furthering their education in their favorite medium. We’re also thankful for our instructors; fantastic artists in their own right all of whom take the time to answer questions each week, provide insight and guide artists on their creative paths, all from their own computers! It’s a special community we’ve created here, artists of all skill levels from all types of backgrounds and geographies!
I love giving (and receiving) unique artistic gifts during the holidays and there are plenty of places to find great tutorials and ideas (did someone say Pinterest?). But if you’re looking for something that gives you more guidance and feedback and fewer filtered photos as you create your work, then the 2-week holiday sessions at Artist’s Network University are not to be missed.
Leaves are turning and Fall is here, but rather than winding down we’re busy adding new courses to our calendar at Artist’s Network University. At ANU we’re always looking for great new courses and instructors and we’re excited to say that in the past year we’ve added lots of both! Just next week we have a new course from How to Paint 3-Dimensional Watercolors with Joe Cibere launching for the first time. This new course shows you exciting and simple techniques to giving your watercolor art depth like never before.
Integrating art into your daily life is a challenge, but when you’re successful it’s important to keep moving yourself forward. Pushing your own artistic skills and boundaries can help keep things interesting!
Every day I get to hear stories of breakthroughs, triumphs and challenges in our courses. It’s inspiring and over the past few weeks I’ve really enjoyed sharing their art business tips with you. I think that if you follow their advice and find your own voice through art then you’ll certainly find an exciting new professional path.
If you’ve ever wanted to pick the brain of a professional artist, now is your chance! Building on my blog post from last week focusing on making the move to full-time artist, this week you can hear even more about the process of making art your career. You might just find the inspiration to take that first step yourself!
Making the decision to become an artist full-time can be inspiring but overwhelming, at Artist’s Network University all our instructors are also successful working artists in their own right, and they all have great insight and tips into creating a sustainable art career.
Stepping outside your comfort zone can help you to see your art and painting in a new way. Trying something that seems beyond the “norm” can often lead to exciting work! Artist’s Network University student Jeanine Robb left stress at her studio door, signing up for Painting Abstractions and Abstract Realism with Betsy Dillard Stroud.
One of our newest courses, Pastel Drawing with Your Right Mind, includes not only important drawing exercises but also gives a great introduction to working with pastels. Instructor, Suzanne Day, was excited to share her right/left brain approach to drawing with students while working with one of her favorite media.
One of our foundational courses, Understanding Oil Paint: Foundations, Pigments, Glazing, and Optical Effects is a 2 week course we offer giving students the opportunity to dig deep into the foundations of this classic medium, showing them how to create and mix different themes and create different effects. Daan Hoekstra leads the course and he shared the work of two students with me, showing me how practicing working with your medium of choice can help you lay a solid foundation for your future painting, giving you more freedom and confidence as you work!
