Artist’s birth date must be on or before December 31, 1955. The contest is open to all artists working in two dimensions in all traditional art media (ex. oil, watercolor, acrylic, pastel, mixed media, gouache, egg tempera, pen and ink; drawing media such as graphite, charcoal, colored pencils, scratch board, markers, metal point; and two-dimensional collage and fabric art as well). Please, no digital art, photography, or three-dimensional art such as installation art or sculpture. Artists can live in the U.S. and abroad. All works must be original. “Original” means that the work must be from the hand of a single artist; pieces that originate from a workshop or a class under the direction of a teacher are not eligible. For works based on reference photographs, eligibility demands that the artist must have taken the photographs or have obtained written permission from the photographer. Compositions based on published material or other artists’ work are NOT considered original and are not eligible. No entrant can win more than one prize. Artists whose work has appeared in The Artist’s Magazine in the last five years are not eligible. Employees or associates of F+W Media, Inc., or their immediate families may not enter. The Artist’s Magazine reserves the right to reject work deemed unsuitable for publication or that does not meet above criteria.
PREPARING YOUR ENTRY
Enter online or via regular mail using The 2015 Artist’s Magazine Over 60 Competition printable entry form. All entries entered offline (mailed in) must list the title; the medium or media; and the dimensions of the piece. Online entry forms collect this information automatically. Entries received with missing information will be disqualified. No refunds will be issued for disqualified entries. There is no limit to the number of images you may enter. For entries submitted via regular mail, you may mail all your entries in on one CD. You MUST include a cover sheet that lists the title, medium/media, and dimensions of each image. The titles of the images on the CD must match the titles on the sheet.
Image requirements for entries: JPG files (Please try to keep the file size under 5 MB to ensure proper uploading). If entering online, the viewing screen & thumbnail which you will see during the entry process is for general reference only and does not reflect the image quality that will be viewed by jurors. The file that you attach is exactly as it will appear to the jurors.
Note: All entrants should be prepared to be able to send a print-quality replacement file should their entry be among those selected as a winner. For publication, these files should be 300 dpi when saved at approximately 8×10 inches (2400×3600 pixels), ideally, and 5×7 inches (1500×2100 pixels) at minimum.
FEES AND PAYMENT: All early-bird entries are $20 per image (submitted no later than September 8, 2015, 11:59 pm EST. Entries submitted after that date are $25 per image. A credit card number and signature, check or money order for the required jury fee (in U.S. funds drawn on a U.S. bank) must accompany a mailed-in entry. You may send one check to cover all entries in a package. Or you may enter online using a credit card. Payment will be processed within 30 days of contest deadline. Charge will appear as “F+W Contests.”
MATERIALS: CDs will not be returned (so have a duplicate made for your own files). Entries will be prejudged and award winners will be chosen by the magazine staff. All properly prepared entries will be viewed and judged.
All winners will be notified by December 1, 2015. The results will not otherwise be made public until they are published in The Artist’s Magazine (March 2016 issue). Non-winning entrants will not be individually notified of the results. Your cancelled check or credit-card charge will be notification for receipt of your entry.
