Stephen Bennett: One Man—1,000 Portraits

Stephen Bennett uses his photos to guide him in creating portraits that focus on the eyes, inviting us to “enter” and experience our common humanity.

Stephen Bennett is a dedicated portrait painter who has traveled to 30 countries seeking out indigenous peoples, capturing their soulful faces through vibrant portraits on a grand scale, many of which are 7×5 feet. His mission is to share our world’s cultural diversity through a unique style of realism using interpretive color—with paints he has hand-mixed from pure pigments. Bennett’s life goal is to paint 1,000 portraits to be exhibited worldwide. —Cherie Haas
