Christian Schad Retrospective was published by Wienand Verlag in May 2009. It was written by Anna auer, Michael Fuhr, Thomas Ratzka and Thomas Richter.

Schad (1894-1982) specialized in portraits, whose “expressive eyes” functioned as “mirrors to the soul.” He contributed largely to the Neue Sachlichkeit (New Objectivity) Movement. He was influenced by Cubism and Dadaism. Some would label his work as Classical Modernism. Schad was known for working with multiple types of media and was always exploring new techniques.
