Sandra Power spends five days a week painting, not as an escape but as a career. A sixth day is devoted to working with psychiatric patients as a nurse. “I find that my interactions with these troubled people provide a balance in my life.” On painting days she can be found in the Seattle industrial area, near the water, in a former warehouse converted to artists’ studios. “The landlord is also an artist, and there are about 25 of us supporting each other and networking. The second Saturday of each month, we have open studios so the general public can come and enjoy the art.
