Pastelist Barbara Noonan’s painting philosophy is simple: less is more. The artist strives to “distill” the landscape to its essential elements and is careful not to reveal too much. Her soft focus pastel paintings begin with blurred recollections, sometimes photos shot out of a moving vehicle, transition to watercolor underpaintings and then accrue through layer upon layer of luscious pastel.
