Journeys to Abstraction in Watercolor

watercolor painting, watercolors, tutorial, free event, workshop, abstracts

For more than 40 years, Sue St. John has been engaged on an artistic journey: she began by painting the rural landscapes of her hometown in oil, but has gradually moved toward abstraction in watercolor, finding the challenge of this medium and subject a wonderful outlet for her creativity.

Join the artist as she shares insights from Journeys to Abstraction, giving you a sneak peek at a variety of artists’ painting and thought processes for making abstract art. At the end of this free online event, you’ll have the opportunity to ask the artist questions. Register now to reserve your spot! The fun begins June 26 at 1 p.m.

Speaking of watercolor abstracts, in the August 2012 issue of Watercolor Artist, five artists show you how they paint, pour, stencil, lift, spray and otherwise build complex layers of texture and meaning in their abstract watercolor paintings. Whether you try the techniques to create your own abstract painting or simply find new, dynamic forms of self-expression, the rewards are infinite. Get started with the bonus tips on our site. You’re sure to head into your next painting session with more than a few fresh ideas to try!
