Beth Krommes | Illustrations in Scratchboard and Watercolor

Beth Krommes earned a bachelor of fine arts degree in painting in 1977 from Syracuse University in New York and, in 1980, a master of arts in art education from the University of Massachusetts Amherst. During her undergrad years she spent a year at St. Martin’s School of Art in London. She had worked as a public school art teacher, a manager of a fine handcraft shop and an art director for a computer magazine before turning to illustration full time in 1989. Since her first picture book assignment, Grandmother Winter (Houghton Mifflin Books for Children, 1999) by Phyllis Root, she’s illustrated several award-winning children’s books, including The House in the Night by Susan Marie Swanson, for which she received the Randolph Caldecott Medal in 2009. Krommes lives in Peterborough, New Hampshire. For more information visit www.bethkrommes.com.
