The joy of pastel is being celebrated across the globe, most recently, in France, with the First Salon International Pastel d’Opale, which opened last weekend at the Forum des Loisirs in St Léonard near Boulogne. English artist Cheryl Culver, the president of the Pastel Society UK, was the Guest of Honor. She and special guest Frank C. Hauser were among the 66 artists featured in the show, representing all corners of France, as well as the United Kingdom, Spain, Germany, Turkey, Italy, Slovakia, India, Belgium, Ireland and Austria. The result is an exciting showcase of 196 pastel works of art on display to the public through March 16. “The president of Pastel d’Opale, Françoise Guillaume, and her team have put together a wonderful collection of pastel work which shows the variety and complexity of this medium,” Culver says.
