We’re mixing it up in the New and Notable section of the summer 2013 of Drawing–instead of spotlighting one artist creating fresh and compelling work, we’re spotlighting hundreds.
The young artists in question are the deserving winners of the Society of Illustrators’ annual Student Scholarship Competition. For years, the competition has rallied students in art and illustration programs around the country to submit their best work for a chance to win exposure, commissions, and scholarship awards. This year, 270 works were selected out of more than 8,000 entries for exhibition at the Society of Illustrators, in New York City.
We’re thrilled to present here an online gallery of a few of the many fantastic works in this exhibition. Featured below is Masuko Jo’s watermedia painting Odori, winner of one of the competition’s top prizes. Following this are several other award-winning illustrations that didn’t make it into the magazine.
We hope you enjoy the energy and imagination of these works. For more information about the Society of Illustrators and its student competition, click here. And to see more winning works, buy the new issue of Drawing here!
