The Tao of Nature

Painting is a spiritual journey. The preparation is like an act of meditation: setting out the materials, grinding the ink, preparing the watercolors; the ritual takes time and it induces calm. As an artist you follow the tao or way of nature—experiencing the flower by smelling it, touching it and observing it. You can’t paint without understanding the subject, and you can’t paint without your heart.
