|Nest on Red
2008, oil on linen, 12 x 16.
Overall, this is a very well-painted painting! The brushstrokes are engaging, and the cast shadows read very well and add a lot of movement to the composition. I might have made the reds more orange, which would complement the blues of the eggshells and make them stand out more. The artist might want to consider making the eggshells in the foreground a warmer blue, which would make them come forward in space. Also, the feather could be more of a neutral gray with touches of blue to separate it from the eggshells and add more interest.
