Brenda Boylan’s pastel landscapes (and streetscapes) feature countless layers of pastel, but there’s no need to peel back each color to understand what lies beneath. It’s all right there in front of your eyes, all at once. “I love to have the underpainting peek through,” the pastel artist says. “It unites all the other colors and creates a wonderful glow.”
To learn about her underpainting process—and to see more of her country landscapes, as well as her city scenes—don’t miss the December 2014 issue of Pastel Journal.
