A gallery of spectacular pastel work is just a mouse-click away at the International Association of Pastel Societies (IAPS) website where they’ve just posted the selected paintings for their 2010 Web Show. “It’s a great show,” says IAPS president Maggie Price. “with a wonderful assortment of styles and subjects all demonstrating the incredible range of possibilities in pastel.”
Price reports a record number of entries this year, more than 850 entries, with 72 accepted for the exhibition. “It was an enormous job for our show chair, Liz Haywood-Sullivan,” she says, “and our jurors of selection, Lorenzo Chavez, Margaret Evans and Bill Hosner.” The judge of awards was Claudia Seymour, who was tasked with the selection of nine award winners. First place went to Deborah Bays for her knockout still life, Egg Shells and Blue Willow (18×24), shown here. You can see all the award-winners with judge’s comments, the honorable mentions and accepted entries on the website.
If the Web Show has inspired you to submit your own work for consideration in a pastel exhibition, you’ll find a prospectus for each of two upcoming IAPS exhibitions posted on the site—the 2011 Poster Competition and the 18th Juried Exhibition.
