Want to know who painted his or her way to our latest artful prize? Meet the winner! In the April issue of Watercolor Artist, Myrna Wacknov challenged readers to rescue their failed watercolor paintings by applying gesso to the surface. (Read a free excerpt of her must-read watercolor advice online.) We’re now pleased to announce that the “editors’ choice” and the winner of our prize is Ada Astacio for her Self-Portrait (featured above).
Astacio shared these thoughts regarding the painting process: “My Self-Portrait was done with help from your article “Gesso You Know” by Myrna Wacknov. I loved the article and was already experimenting with gesso. I used a foam roller to apply the gesso to my surface and created some textures with pieces of plastic from the bottom of a salad container. Now that I’m recycling, I look for anything that will give me unique and different textures. Thanks for all the cool ideas!”
Astacio will receive a copy of Art Journey America Landscapes, a new title from North Light Books featuring gorgeous landscape paintings. Congratulations to our winner and to all those who entered their work!
