Explore a city from the point of view of its artists and artisans and you discover a rich and lively culture wherever you go. Santa Fe, with one of the largest art markets in the U.S., is no exception! Their Artists in Residence season is just beginning and here’s what to look forward to!
An Art Scene Seen Differently
From November 1, 2018 through February 28, 2019, Santa Fe visitors can watch art come to life in notable and unique places at the hands of the city’s makers and artists. During Santa Fe Artists in Residence, visitors will be able to interact with jewelry makers, painters, sculptors and ceramic artists across the city’s top-notch galleries and stylish hotels. Plus watch them at work, essentially seeing the most interesting contemporary art created in some of the city’s most interesting places. Be sure to give yourself plenty of time to explore as Santa Fe has more than 250 galleries with a wide variety of art to visit and enjoy!
Draw creative inspiration from these in-depth and eye-opening exchanges and take the excitement home with you. Maybe even incorporate your experiences into your next artistic project or make a return trip to one of the places you visit for more inspiration in the future.
Here are three of the many artists who will be participating in the Artists in Residence season and what you have to look forward to if you stop by to see them bring their creative work to life.
The World Outside Her Door
Barbara Meikle is an artist who paints her environment of Tesuque, New Mexico in all its colorful wonder. She will be present at the Barbara Meikle Fine Art gallery, which provides an intimate environment to view just a few good artists and an eclectic mix of art.
Barbara is an artist from childhood, but grew up to earn painting and printmaking degrees in Denver. Her paintings leave bright and vibrant impressions on us, as well as an undeniable touch of whimsy and fun.

A Lyrical Way
Roberta Parry watercolor paintings have a lyrical way about them. There is no other way to describe it as she showcases her absolute affinity for watercolor and the impact of light and color on her work.
They will be perfectly showcased at the Four Seasons Rancho Encantado — a secluded refuge in the Land of Enchantment. The scent of piñon woodsmoke often fills the air in this ruggedly beautiful setting of 57 rolling acres in the Sangre de Cristo foothills, yet just minutes from downtown Sante Fe’s shops and galleries. Rancho Encantado is undeniably romantic and the perfect setting for an art- and nature-lover to explore.
Roberta’s paintings have been exhibited in solo and group shows in New Mexico and neighboring states, as well as public spaces in Santa Fe. Parry studied art at the University of Arizona in Tucson and at the University of Hawaii in Honolulu.

Her Best Friends
Melinda Silver began her artistic career as an illustrator and graphic designer for print media, and pen and ink were her best friends.
Over the years, she expanded her range of media and artistic styles, and now concentrates on painting with acrylics and with encaustics (hand-prepared oil tints with wax formulations) as she ventures into the abstract, sometimes with vignettes of collage.
Melinda and her work will be present and on display at the Inn of the Governors, an intimate and charmingly authentic southwest-style hotel located in downtown Santa Fe. The Inn is a tranquil destination to be sure, but simply stroll outside the door and you will find yourself walking straight into the heart of Santa Fe’s historic plaza district—a world of enchanting landscape, culture, and history. Some of the city’s best restaurants, museums, shops and landmarks are just blocks away.
