At first glance her still lifes may seem straightforward but they often challenge the lines between realism and abstraction and literally reflect the Watercolor Artist’s life. She works in the great still-life tradition of Western art. Sloan’s remarkable paintings come to life. Her gallery of watercolor portraits represents a distinctly modernist approach to design and color, employing bold shapes and distorting reflections. She shoots dozens of photos of her still life set-ups and paints from a selection of slides.
Sloan was born in Chicago in 1946. She graduated from Marymount College, Tarrytown, New York, and received an MFA in graphic arts from the University of Chicago.
