I thoroughly enjoyed Patti's tutorial on simplifying a still life painting by using three values: light, dark, and medium. She has a special way of presenting basic ideas. I love her bold, confident style.

Very good clear instructions on how to do value studies and translate them into corresponding color studies. Easy to follow and thought process of the artist explained nicely. Might be helpful in pointing out what type of value plan is usually used for conveying what types of mood.

Well worth watching for people like me who struggle with determining values. Seeing Ms. Mollica go through the process of designing the three value plans was extremely helpful. I definitely plan to practice this!

Simply fantastic!
Really beneficial for anyone who has issues 'finding shapes'
She is fantastic for 'follow along', as well as overviewing.
She could do more videos!

I like Patti and her measured relay of information. There seems to be a sweet spot however that never seems to be reached between going slow enough to get the point, with enough repetition, and going so slow that I want to nod off. It probably has to do with individual ways of learning, which I think could be alleviated by having a 10 second speed up or rewind that many podcasts offer. I found it difficult and a little frustrating trying to control the general advance and retreat with my finger only. That being said, I did learn quite a bit from Patti's instruction, and an exercise I will try.

I like the way she explained creating a "value plan" -- making decisions about what will become the light/medium/dark values before even thinking about the colors to be used. A handful of miscellaneous painting tips scattered about also. 90 minutes seems longer than was needed to communicate all her advice, but it did give me a chance to try to do my own sketches/studies as I watched.

Very very interesting and informative video.
The best videos for a beginner like me: all the essentials are said. It's the second time I watch them, and probably not the last one.
Il love all three, and bought the two little books: the best investment in my opinion!

Patti clearly demonstrates the use of a value study using 3 different value studies. Then she takes one of them and transitions to a color study which I found very helpful in my painting. Finally she shows another transition to the final painting where the edges are softened by expanding the values into a fuller range. The video is well produced and her instruction is easy to follow.

I learned so much. I was struggling with value and Patti presented it in such a way that I had the "ah ha" moment. I can't wait to do my own value studies before my next big painting. It's like having a plan / map for your own design.

excellent very informative
Very good clear and simple explanation,
I enjoy your videos
Thank you very much Patti!

I found the information about the value studies very informative, but am very confused by the title of the class. There was nothing fast or loose about it. It was very controlled. But it was a good value class.

Wonderful! I learned a lot. I didn't see the other video she mentioned about colors. I look forward to see it.

Excellent. Learned more in this one hour than in so many before. Taking her class!!
