In this video workshop, Liz paints a stream running through the woods from start to finish, teaching you how water works (reflection, light and shadow, color) as well as demonstrating techniques that will allow you to create believable water with pastel–layering, how to make water lay flat or read as transparent, and more!
Four Layers of Water
The bottom of the water: rocks and sand
The body of water: the color of the water itself as it is affected by its surroundings and what lies beneath
Reflections on top of water: trees, sky, or other things that reflect onto the top of the water
The top layer or the water: moving currents, glints of light, ripples, and splashes
Follow along to create this stunning painting in pastel. In this preview you’ll learn how to capture the color and value of the water in your underpainting, and get some quick tips on adding reflections to your water.

I'd like to watch it again, to review and reinforce what I learned initially. Can't I?

Brilliant!!!! I learn so much from Liz's teaching and then demonstrating the technique.

I love this lesson and this instructor but the camera work is just terrible. Who wants to see distance shots of the canvas or the back of her head? If I could, I would give five stars for the artist and one star for the camera person.

Liz is a wonderful instructor and makes it look so easy! Unfortunately my painting was a mess!!! I think I need to back away from the water right now and master land first! But I am determined to make this painting work! Thanks for such a wonderful video.

Liz brings the picture out of the paper with passion and true talent. She explains everything clearly whilst showing how what she is teaching is done in practice. I first learned of Liz through her book (which I say is a must if you are looking to substantially improve your pastel paintings), which ultimately led me here. After watching Liz paint, she inspires me to go forth and try her techniques for myself. I have gotta say - everything she teaches really, really does work. I encourage everyone to watch her videos, because just like in this video about the different layers of water and building up...you will find that what once presented as a hard subject matter can be broken down into easy steps that will result in a breathtaking painting.

Liz makes you feel welcome with her friendly but confident style. Her explanations are straightforward and her demonstration quite inspiring. I really felt that I learned a great deal about reflections and usage of color in a landscape.

Liz is a wonderful artist and excellent teacher. She helps the student understand her reasons for the decisions she makes as she paints. Her videos are extremely helpful and inspiring.

I wish I could have Liz in my pocket with me every time I do my own art! I adore her work, her technique and style. The lessons, tips and hints I have discovered from her videos and book are exciting, inspiring and invaluable for my own art. Liz is my favourite pastellist, without a doubt. I have poured through her book and articles in the Pastel Journal; watched her videos over and over and now am exploring her underpainting technique myself. I always feel inspired and ready to go after watching Liz on video or studying her book. My passion and obsession for pastel is fuelled each and every time I view her breathtaking work.
