this episode is Part of the Drawing Together live video series – learn more here
We’re tackling eyes again in this episode. For this drawing, the objective is to try and capture expression in the eyes. The reference photo is a bit larger, allowing you to create the full portrait if you wish, but I’ll be focusing on drawing the eys. Follow along using this reference image: Reference Image

I learned so much doing this! Thanks
Didn’t draw along though!
Great work!!! May I know which pencil you have used for beard?
This session was fun. I’ve been drawing along since the sliced bread lesson, although this is the first time I’ve posted one of my drawings. I might go back and add my favorites. I’m going to miss the twice weekly classes. Thanks, Scott, for being a great instructor.
Wow!
This is my favorite exercise yet!
My try of this gentleman.
I decided to finish the whole face after the lesson. I should have measured a bit better with the eyes, they’re a bit too close-set. But the beard was rather fun to do…took quite a while! Thanks for another wonderful lesson, Scott!
Not sure what happened in last post except doing it on my phone. Liked doing this picture, enjoy faces.
Love the challenge! Thanks Scott
Love drawing faces, challenging! Thanks Scott
I really enjoyed this one!
Enjoyed this lesson but realized I need to work on toned and not white paper. Still I like sketching in graphite (unlike my usual medium of colored pencil) because it is so easy to blend and also erase. Thanks, Scott !
Going to do again only whole face – enjoy all your lessons!
Here’s my go at the expression. I did the whole guy… eyes are too big and he is a man but maybe another man lol. Thanks for yet another great challenge and thanks Scott for your time and for the fun drawing together sessions…. keep em coming 🙂
Love portraits! Wish we could keep on drawing twice a week. Thank you, Scott!
Love portraits! Wish we could keep on drawing twice a week. You rock, Scott!
I used gray toned sketch paper with 2B, 6B & white charcoal pencils. It seems a bit dark..This was a challenge…and fun! Thanks, Scott
Scott, I always learn something new from you and you’re great at reinforcing some good practices or breaking me of some bad habits. Thanks. Not sure I got the “smiling” eyes, but a fun exercise.
Thanks for joining us! This looks great!
Nicely done!
Nice work! Thank you for sharing this. I’m glad to see you tackled the full portrait!
Another wonderful challenge, thank you Scott! I’ll be sad to see this drop to once a week, but there are a lot of older ones I missed and some that I’d like to try again, so I can keep up the drawing routine. The grey paper just doesn’t erase well for me, but I enjoy adding the bright highlights. Always searching for the best combination ?. (Strathmore toned grey paper graphite, white pastel pencil.)
I did the whole photo reference. I really enjoyed the progress
It’s such fun being engaged with the Drawing Together Tribe
Thanks, Scott for helping to make that happen

I only had white paper, so I learned to use my erasure to create the whites. The erasure even worked to blend and develop values. Learned a new skill.
Thank you Scott for another great class
