I teach an open studio class where students can work on anything they want. One thing Ive noticed about beginning artists is that they often havent thought about the viewer at all. What I always stress is to keep the viewer in mind when youre painting. Thats an entirely different problem from understanding value or color. Painting is in your eyes as much as it is in your fingers. Learn to lookto seefirst, then paint.
