Meditations on Drawing

Need a great excuse to run away with your art?

Take the best parts of an art retreat—dedicated time to work on your own art, small group instruction in new techniques—add daily yoga and meditation activities into the mix, and you get Meditations on Drawing, a completely different kind of art retreat than what you may be used to.

Draw. Reflect. Renew.

Artists Network is proud to present Meditations on Drawing, an immersive, extended weekend retreat in Newburyport, MA for you to reconnect with your art and spirit. Limited to just 20 attendees, you will enjoy one-on-one mentorship from artist Gigi Chen, and author and artist Suzan Colón.

Located in Newburyport, MA, you’ll be steps from the harbor, a short drive to the ocean, and right in the middle of a seaside New England village full of wonderful restaurants, independent shops, and art galleries in every direction. You’ll connect deeply with your drawing in new ways, experimenting with different techniques, finding beauty in everything that you see, and learning to draw on location.

If you’re looking for a chance to dig deeper, learn how to be present in each moment, and integrate all of that into your art, you won’t want to miss this retreat!

Group A: Personal Narratives, with Gigi
This follows the theme of small observations from the previous workshop and will put the power of observation into practice. We’ll also be playing around with the idea of “building,” which can mean different things to everyone. You can stack, tie objects together or simply arrange them on a surface and, in doing so and capturing them, rediscover what the object means to you and the composition.

Group B: Be Here Now: The Mindfulness of Art Journaling, with Suzan
In this workshop, you’ll be grounded in the present with a fun art tool: the Magic Pencil. These multi-colored pencils will bring you back to the in-the-moment, expectation-free feeling you had when you were a kid.
