Meditations on Drawing

Draw. Reflect. Renew.

Artists Network is proud to present Meditations on Drawing, an immersive, extended weekend retreat in Newburyport, MA for you to reconnect with your art and spirit. Limited to just 20 attendees, each will enjoy one-on-one mentorship from artist Gigi Chen, and author and artist Suzan Colón.

At Meditations on Drawing, you’ll connect deeply with your drawing in new ways, experimenting with different techniques, finding beauty in everything that you see, and learning to draw on location wherever you are. You’ll leave with the ability to make memories that resonate much more than a picture snapped on your phone.

To help you deepen your creativity and enhance your ability to be present in each moment (in the classroom and beyond), instructor Suzan Colón will offer daily yoga and meditation sessions. While these sessions are optional, they are all included in your registration.

Meditations on Drawing is self-paced and participants are encouraged to come regardless of level of experience with drawing, yoga or meditation. You’ll get out of the weekend what you put in. Imagine returning home rested and inspired to new heights with your own drawing practice.

Saturday

8:15 – 9:00 AM Morning Yoga with Suzan

11:00 AM – 1:00 PM
Group A: Personal Narratives, with Gigi
This follows the theme of small observations from the previous workshop and will put the power of observation into practice. We’ll also be playing around with the idea of “building,” which can mean different things to everyone. You can stack, tie objects together or simply arrange them on a surface and, in doing so and capturing them, rediscover what the object means to you and the composition.
Group B: Be Here Now: The Mindfulness of Art Journaling, with Suzan
In this workshop, you’ll be grounded in the present with a fun art tool: the Magic Pencil. These multi-colored pencils will bring you back to the in-the-moment, expectation-free feeling you had when you were a kid.
