About Debora Stewart
Debora L. Stewart is an abstract artist working in both pastel and acrylic. She is a Signature Member of the Pastel Society of America. Her pastels have won awards from Pastel Journal Magazine, International Artist Magazine and the Pastel Society of America. Stewart is represented by galleries in Iowa, Wisconsin, Georgia, Arizona and California. Her work is in private collections and public including the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.
Through the years she has developed a unique way of working with pastel and acrylic by combining under painting, value drawing and textured grounds. Debora is a regular instructor with Artists Network University where she teaches an online course in creating abstract pastels. She also teaches workshops throughout the U.S. and Canada.

Surface
Sanded pastel paper (Debora uses UArt for her color studies)
Pastels (Debora uses Unison brand)
Variety of hard and soft pastels
Variety of warm and cool colors, and neutrals
Variety of values (dark, medium and light for each color)

Charcoal (vine and compressed)
Newsprint (or other scrap paper)
Color wheel (optional)
Hairdryer
Rubbing alcohol (flat synthetic brush and container for application; could use a foam brush if fewer brushstrokes preferred)
