Sunsets, when done properly, are one of the most beautiful and impressive painting themes. In some cases they can be too garish if copied at face value. The secret is in the subtlety of the warm colors. In this course, you will gain insight on how to control sunsets so they don’t overpower the painting. You will learn how to:
- Create rhythm with clouds and pleasing eye movement
- Budget the amount of space dedicated to the sky
- Capitalize on the sky colors for highlights on surrounding areas
- Calm down the overwhelming color temperature

Painting demonstrations will include the following subjects:
- Sunset over the Tetons (oils)
- Last rays of sunlight glowing as the sun sets behind a forest (pastels)
- Sunset at Acadia National Park (watercolor)
