Capturing Light and Color: Landscape in Pastel with Alain Picard
DVD

Join Alain in this video workshop to learn how to influence the mood of your landscape painting, just by modifying your color scheme. Create color harmony in your pastel painting by limiting your palette to a certain segment of the color wheel, like only warm or only cool colors. You'll also follow along with Alain as he paints a landscape in pastel featuring trees on a hill. You'll see his techniques for layering pastels, blending colors, and working dark to light in pastel.

Capturing Light and Form: Still Life in Pastel with Alain Picard
DVD

Alain starts by introducing you to the basics: how to portray basic objects and how light interacts with them. Study how light wraps around a spherical object and how to portray this in pastels. You'll also learn Alain's method for creating form through the depiction of light, and practice capturing light and shadows in quick value studies. He demonstrates how to set up and add lighting to a scene featuring apples on a piece of glass to compose a still life that has dramatic lighting elements.

Painting the Figure in Pastel with Alain Picard
DVD

Alain Picard teaches you how to paint a figure in pastel with a variety of lighting all in one scene, from bright highlights to deep shadows. You'll learn how to break an image down into simple elements to capture the figure accurately. Plus, you'll learn to paint light and shadows realistically in pastel to give your paintings great form and depth. These elements are what make the finished work pop off the page, rather than looking flat and lifeless.

  1. I Love It! review by Rex on 4/7/2015
    Rating

I love it! I read the entire book on the first day. The print is stunning, the DVDs are wonderful and the supplies are great.

  2. Great value and the DVDs are excellent review by SFB on 1/25/2015
    Rating

Alain Picard's DVDs are what drive this package. They are very well done, they take their time and don't skip important details during the process. Everything else was gravy. For instance, the Terry Ludwig pastels found immediate use in a workshop I attended last weekend and are beautiful. The sanded paper was interesting too and something I can use, but the real surprise, only because I wasn't counting too much on it was the signed print by AP. I am a photographer and own a large format printer and this print was very well done. The colors jump off the page.

I have to admit that the book wasn't anything I would have bought but only because I have several other books covering the same material. It is a decent book though.

All in all, although I bought this package on the spur of the moment, the first half of the still life video provided enough insight watching AP's technique that I was able to paint what the workshop teacher, a member of PSA called my best work to date.

    You can't argue with success.
