Details

You’ll love this issue of Southwest Art if:
  • You love casting a wider net to find new artists worth exploring.
  • You love maritime art and artistic interpretations of America’s eastern landscapes and wildlife.
  • You love art of a deftly worked watercolors and the washes and effects unique to the medium.

In the November 2017 issue of Southwest Art, we go farther afield to find talented artists and bring you alternate subject matter to explore. In this issue you’ll find the marine and landscape painting of East Coast artist Don Demers and learn how his landlocked childhood influenced his seafaring days and the subject matter he brings to his canvases. Julie Bell declared she’d be an artist when she was in the fifth grade, but it was a visit to a wolf sanctuary in her mid-40s that changed the course of the Pennsylvania artist’s career. Learn more about her process and her circuitous route to fine art in this issue. Minnesota artist Andy Evansen uses the washes and effects of watercolor to explore how light defines a landscape and Hilarie Lambert of coastal South Carolina uses her paints to explore how everyday subject matter from kitchen utensils to sidewalk cafés radiates beauty in the light.

Also in this issue we gather together the work of six artists who paint the human figure, and we preview art shows and auctions around the West.
