Southwest Art October 2016 Print Edition

Quick Overview

Learn more about collecting the right art for you in the October issue of Southwest Art with frequently asked questions—and answers—from four gallery directors. Meet artists Diane Ainsworth and Rox Corbett and 11 women artists creating in diverse media.

You’ll love this issue of Southwest Art if:

  • You want to learn more about collecting art, asking the right questions when visiting a gallery, and finding the best artists and artwork for you.
  • You love black and white images of the contemporary West, hand-rendered in painstaking detail.
  • You love discovering new talent and emerging artists.

In the October 2016 issue of Southwest Art we explore art from the collector’s perspective. We begin by taking a look at New Yorker Tim Newton’s expansive collection and how it began with a visit to an artist’s studio in Montana 25 years ago. “It was the beginning of an insatiable passion for art,” Newton says. Then we pick the brains of four gallery owners and directors about the most frequently asked questions regarding the art in their galleries and their insights on finding the best artwork for your artwork collection.

Also in this issue we meet artists Diane Ainsworth and Rox Corbett. Ainsworth, who has spent the past 20 years in the Pacific Northwest, capturing its muted colors and coastal scenes, returns to the Southwest to rejoin the art community in Taos. Read about her roundabout journey in the October issue. Corbett, who spent years adrift in marine-science vessels from Maine to Antarctica, now resides in remote Wyoming, exchanging whales and waves for Rocky Mountain wildlife and ranching landscapes. She renders contemporary photo-realistic images of the West—from horses and livestock to wildlife—in charcoal.

Also in this issue, we meet 11 female artists working in a wide range of media and genres, and we preview 17 art shows and events from Oklahoma City to Seattle.
