Southwest Art September 2016 Print Edition

Quick Overview

Explore the works of 21 talented artists, all under the age of 31, in the September issue of Southwest Art. Meet artists Mary Roberson and Krystii Melaine and preview 18 essential art events including a retrospective of Richard Schmid’s illustrious career.

You'll love this issue of Southwest Art if:

  • You love exploring the next generation of artists to discover the masters of tomorrow.
  • You love the fresh feel of contemporary artists' representational interpretations of the West, both old and new.
  • You love exploring various interpretations of the urban landscape.

Every year we devote the September issue of Southwest Art to discovering new young talent. This year we bring you another 21 artists who show promise of becoming the masters we'll look to in the future. They hail from all over the country -coast to coast - as well from Canada. Explore their varied styles, inspiration for their work, their quirks and pet peeves, and, importantly, find out where you can find their work.

Also in this issue, we meet Idaho-based artist Mary Roberson and Washington-based painter Krystii Melaine. Roberson finds artistic inspiration in the natural world for her contemporary, tonal canvases, as much in the birds and insects found in her own back yard as in the iconic animals of the Rocky Mountain wilderness. Melaine has been fascinated by the American West since her childhood, growing up in southeastern Australia. After a career in fashion design, she combined her knowledge of how clothing fits the human form with her passion for the people of the American West to create a body of work that explores the lives of the people who populated the western Plains during the early 1800s.
